AVATAR (2009)
Avatar, an epic science
fiction film directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron.
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and
Sigourney Weaver. The title, Avatar has a bearing with the engineered Na’vi’s
body which is operated from the brain of human. Isn’t it intriguing? We’ll go
over it more in depth throughout the storyline part later. Avatar, a movie
about Pandora, a lush habitable moon of a gas giant in the alpha system in the
middle of 22nd century, when human is colonized in order to mine the
valuable mineral. The mining expansion threatens the local tribe, Na’vi to
continue their existence. Let’s get to know Na’vi a little better. Na’vi is a
Pandora’s humanoid species. Na’vi, 10th feet tall, blue skinned,
brilliant humanoids that live in harmony with nature. Genetically matched human
scientists use Na’vi human hybrids known as “avatars’ to explore Pandora. The
society has a dissent opinion about this film. Some dispute that the film has
been overhyped beyond belief. While the others felt the film was powerful. Nevertheless,
we believe, Avatar deserves to be honored as the finest film. This is due to
the amazing storyline. Paraplegic Marine Jake Sully was transmitted to Pandora
to take his deceased identical twin place, who volunteered to be an operator.
Dr. Grace Augustine, Avatar program head had no choice but accepts Sully as a
bodyguard although she thinks Sully is insufficient. Jake’s avatar was attacked
by Pandoran wildlife while accompanying Dr. Grace and Dr. Norm Spellman’s
avatars. Jake actually is a spy who compromised with the Colonel Miles
Quatritch, head of RDA’s security force that the company will rehabilitate his
leg if he shares information about the Na’vi and their meeting site, the giant
Hometree, which is unapproachable. Jake Sully fell in love with Neytiri, the
daughter of the clan’s chief. They chose each other as mates and Jake is
initiated into the tribe. However, Administrator Parker Selfridge commands that
Hometree need to be demolished. Aside from that, we also believe that the
Computer-Generator-Imagery (CGI) was tremendous. Because of its use of
motion-capture technology and extremely realistic CGI, Avatar was a
technological wonder. The critics also praise the images were innovative and
beautifully executed. The action sequences were well done. There haven’t been
many films that utilize CGI as skillful as James Cameron’s Avatar. We also
would like to express our thoughts on the casting. The actors did an excellent
job portraying their characters. To conclude, we wouldn’t go so far to classify
Avatar a masterpiece. However, it is worthwhile to watch it once and perhaps
again.
